    • EL PASO TRAGEDY

      Our thoughts are with the people of El Paso for the tragedy that transpired on August 3. In memory of those who lost their lives and in accordance with Saturday’s proclamation by Gov. Abbott, the State Bar has lowered the Texas flag to half-staff and it shall remain as such as a sign of honor and respect through sunset on Thursday, August 8. Blood drives and relief funds have been established to aid those impacted.

      The State Bar is vigorously defending its statutory structure in response to a lawsuit that challenges the mandatory bar in Texas. Mandatory membership in a state bar is constitutional under U.S. Supreme Court precedent because of the state’s interest in regulating the legal profession and improving the quality of legal services.

      The Client Attorney Assistance Program is a voluntary, confidential dispute resolution service of the State Bar of Texas. CAAP's objective is to facilitate communication and foster productive dialogue to assist Texas lawyers and their clients in resolving minor concerns, disputes, or misunderstandings within the context of the attorney-client relationship.

      The Texas Board of Legal Specialization is accepting certification applications for 2019.
